Special interests: Community geriatrics especially Primary/secondary care interface; Parkinsons disorders; Delirium; service development using quality improvement methodology.
Current roles: Kate is the medical lead in CHOPI, the Community Health of the Older Person Initiative. Its aims include strengthening primary care expertise in response to frailty issues and improving timeliness in geriatric secondary care to frailer older people. This includes both faster response to the frail person whose health is rapidly changing, and addressing factors earlier in the trajectory of frailty, especially falls, polypharmacy and advanced care planning. Kate also is Clinical Leader for the Older Adults, Rehabilitation and Allied Health service at CCDHB, and co-Chair of the Health of Older People Steering Group within the DHB integrated care Alliance.
Previous roles: Kate’s previous roles include many years in geriatric rehabilitation and subacute care, a number of years in community geriatrics, and most recently 15 months working in the multidisciplinary acute frailty/ consulting team. She continues to run a multidisciplinary Parkinsons clinic.
